Survival Bag

Everest Hiking Bag

Everest Hiking Bag

The first thing you are going to want to get is a survival bag also known as a bug out bag. This will be the bag that contains all of your equipment so this is pretty important. DO NOT OVERLOOK THE IMPORTANCE OF A GOOD BAG!! A survival bag must be strong and big enough to comfortably fit all of your equipment in. We wouldn’t recommend compromising on your bag so read reviews and make an informed decisions. For all of my equipment I have personally used Amazon due to it’s excellent service and onsite customer reviews. We highly recommend the Everest Camping Bag due to it’s capacity and comfort, it also weighs less than a lb and is also very affordable.

Personal Locator Beacon

A personal locator beacon (PLB) is an essential peace of kit if you get lost in the wilderness. PLB’s are used to send out distress signals to the outside world in the event that you get lost or injured in the wilderness. With a push of a button a PLB will send your GPS location to a satellite with an emergency radio signal so rescue personnel can come find you. Within a few minutes a search and rescue mission can be initiated for you. This is especially useful if you like to go on solo hikes, treks and camping trips. PLB’s can be expensive but they are literally a life saving piece of equipment and as such you should strongly consider one of these for your survival bags. The ACR PLB-375 is our recommended choice and is currently 25 percent off on Amazon!

Water Filtration Bottles and Purification Tablets

Another Essential part of your survival kit, finding safe drinking water in the wilderness is not an easy prospect, luckily water filtration bottles and purification tablets exist so that we can collect water from natural sources and make them safe for human consumption. The human body can only go a few days tops without drinking water so you cannot skip on having these. Finding safe water to drink will be the most important part of your survival strategy so if you’re serious about your survivability then you should definitely invest some time and money into learning how to store and collect water safely. You can find water filtration bottles here and purification tablets here.

Parachute Cord

Rope can be substituted here however Parachute cord is much lighter. It can be used for building a shelter and holding things together as well as hunting traps. Parachute cord also gets longer when it is wet so you can use it to get a tight grip on something by tying it wet and letting it dry. Many other uses include hoisting up your possessions and food so the wildlife cannot get to them, can be used as a fishing line and even make a splint for a broken bone. Truly a valuable item to have in any situation.

Signalling Equipment

Whistles, flashlights and signal mirrors should ideally all be with you at all time. Whistles are loud and make it easy to draw rescuers towards you, you can also use flashlights to communicate using morse code. Not really much more to say about these other than the fact they are essential.

Shelter Material

Some kind of material for you to build the walls and roof of your shelter so you do not have to waste valuable time making your shelter water tight with leaves and sticks, this leaves you with more time to do get to more important things like hunting.

First Aid Kit

This ones a no brainer, even the tiniest scratch can become infected if not treated properly. Invest in a small first aid kit and you will thank yourself if you end up getting hurt. The more compact the better as it obviously has to fit inside your bag. Take a look at first aid kits here.

A Change Of Clothing

You’re going to want at least one change of clothing in case the ones you are wearing are wet, wet clothes draw heat away from the body which can lead to hypothermia and death. Synthetic clothes are better at keeping the heat in than cotton so go for them. Take a look at some survival clothing here.
